Setting up a money pot

Can anyone set up a money pot?

Anyone aged 18 or older who has a working email address and bank card (Maestro, VISA, or Mastercard) can set up a money pot.

Are there any requirements for setting up a money pot?

Once you're 18 or older, there are no requirements for setting up a money pot. Or perhaps there is one: making your friends, family, and colleagues happy!

Do I need a bank account to set up a money pot?

You don't need to own a bank account to set up a money pot. You do need to own one when you want to contribute, of course.

How do I edit my money pot? / How do I personalise my money pot?

Want to edit the picture, title, or description of your money pot? Go to your money pot and click 'personalise'.

Who can see my money pot?

Anyone who has received an invitation or the direct link to your money pot, will be able to see your money pot and make a contribution. Only the organiser of the money pot is able to spend the money.

How do I invite friends, family, or colleagues?

Click 'invite people' in your money pot's overview. You can invite people via Facebook, email, or direct link.

Is there a limit to how much I can contribute?

Aren't there enough little rules we need to adhere to? There is no limit to how much or how little you can contribute to money pots. Attention: if you contribute over €1,000 via bank transfer, we are required to ask you for your personal data.

Will my contribution be visible?

If you do not want others to see how much you have contributed, check the hide my contribution box when filling in your contribution amount.

What is a money pot?

A money pot is a type of digital safe in which money can be collected. In financial terms, a money pot is an electronic wallet or eWallet that's at a financial institution. The organiser of the money pot is the owner of the electronic wallet. This means that no one (including Kadonation) but the organiser can use the collected money.

Manage my money pot

Will the organiser of the money pot be notified when a new contribution has been made?

Whenever a new contribution is made, the organiser of the money pot will be notified. The contributor can decide in advance whether the amount they've contributed will be visible or not.

How can I remind people to contribute?

The organiser of the money pot can choose to send a reminder email to invitees who haven't contributed yet.

Can I invite more people?

The organiser of they money pot can invite more people via Facebook, email, or direct link at any time. Invitees can invite more people, as well.

Can I still manage my money pot once the deadline has expired?

The deadline is used to set a date until which invitees can contribute to your money pot. Once the deadline has been reached, people can no longer contribute to your money.

How can I delete my money pot?

To delete a money pot, go to your money pot page, click settings, then click delete.

Can I accidentally delete my money pot when contributions have already been made?

When there's still money left in your money pot, you will not be able to delete it. Leftover money can be spent buying gifts from our gift partners or transferred to a bank account.

How do I deactivate / terminate my money pot?

When setting up your money pot, you choose a deadline by which invitees need to have contributed. Once this deadline has expired, your money pot will be deactivated and your friends, family, and colleagues will no longer be able to contribute. If you want to change the deadline, click the calendar icon next to the end date of your money pot.
PS: make sure people have enough time to contribute, we suggest setting up your money pot a month in advance.

How do I reactivate my money pot?

Once the deadline of your money pot has expired, you can change the deadline to a future date. Your money pot will be reactivated and people will once again be able to contribute.

Spending my money pot

How can I spend the collected money?

The organiser chooses how to spend the money once everyone has contributed or when their goal has been reached. There are three ways to spend the collected money:

  1. Buy a gift or gift card from one of our gift partners
  2. Transfer the money to a bank account *
  3. Buy a Kadonation gift voucher which the recipient can use to choose their own gift
* When transferring money to a bank account, you will have to pay an additional fee of 4%.

Where can I spend the collected money?

You can use the collected money to buy gifts from 31 different gift partners.

Can I use the collected money to buy from any gift partner?

You can use the collected money to buy a gift or gift card from any gift partner. The terms and conditions will vary depending on which gift partner you choose. You can find them on each gift partner's personal page.

Do I have to pay gift partners a transaction fee?

Using Kadonation is fast, easy, safe, and FREE OF CHARGE! When using the collected money to buy a gift from one or more of our gift partners, you do not have to pay a transaction fee!

Can I spend the collected money at different intervals / in different ways?

No obligations or restrictions at Kadonation! You can use the collected money to buy gifts from multiple gift partners or you can transfer leftover money to a bank account.

When will I receive the transferred money?

The money should be on your bank account within 3 business days. Remember that a transaction fee of 4% will be subtracted from the total amount of money.

How do I transfer my money pot?

If you really have no idea what to buy the lucky recipient, you can have them decide. Transferring your money pot is one of our spending options. Go to your money pot page, click spend your money, and then choose have the recipient decide.

Which countries can I transfer money to?

You can transfer the collected money to any bank account with an IBAN (International Bank Account Number) all over the world.

How much time do I have to spend the collected money?

Your money pot does not have an expiration date which means you can take all the time you need to find the perfect gift. If you choose to transfer your money pot to the recipient, they can also take as long as they need.

Do gift vouchers have an expiration date?

If you transfer your money pot, there will be no expiration date. If you use the collected money to buy a gift voucher, however, the terms and conditions of the gift partner apply.

How will the gift voucher be delivered?

When you choose to transfer your money pot, you will be emailed a gift voucher containing a unique code. You can print out this gift voucher (PDF file) and give it to the lucky recipient. When they redeem their gift voucher on our website, the money pot will be transferred to them. You can choose in advance when the recipient will receive this email including a step-by-step guide on how to use their money pot.

What if there's money left after buying a gift from a gift partner?

You have two options: you can either buy another gift from one of our gift partners or you can choose to transfer the money to a bank account. When you transfer money to a bank account, you will have to pay a small transaction fee of 4%.

Can I spend the collected money at a physical store?

Spending the collected money at a physical store is possible for most of our gift partners, but terms and conditions may vary depending on the gift partner. You can find out more about them on every gift partner's Kadonation page. At the moment, you can spend your collected money in the following physical stores: Coolblue, Connections, Eurotuin, Surf4Trends.

Contributing to a money pot

How can my friends, family, and colleagues contribute to my money pot? Which payment methods are available?

The invitees can contribute to a money pot via online payment. They can use any type of payment card for this (credit card, VISA, or Mastercard)

Can people see the amount of money I contributed / the total amount of money collected?

The organiser can decide whether people can see who else is invited, how much money each invitee has contributed, and the total amount of money collected. Contributors can also decided whether their contribution is visible to others or not. If you don't want your contribution to be seen by others, check the corresponding box when filling in your contribution amount.

How can I leave a personal message?

When contributing to a money pot, you can choose to write a personal message to the recipient. All messages will be sent to the organiser once the deadline of the money pot has expired. The organiser will then be able to print them and give them to the recipient. A fun little extra to give at a birthday party, wedding, or other celebration!

Can I contribute to a money pot more than once?

Yes! As long as the deadline hasn't expired, you can contribute to a money pot as much as you like.

Is it possible to contribute on behalf of someone else?

When you're almost done contributing, you'll be able to change the name of the contributor. That way, you can easily contribute on behalf of someone else when they can't do it themselves.

Will I receive a payment confirmation?

Once your payment is completed successfully, you'll receive a payment confirmation. From that moment on, your name will become visible in the list of contributors.

How secure is my payment?

The security of our users and their personal data is very important to us which is why we take certain measures to guarantee safe and smooth transactions.
We only accept 3D-secured bank cards which means you will always have to use your card reader to verify your payment. All transactions are processed by certified payment agency Mangopay.
PS: Our system meets much stricter security norms than most banking agencies you know.

Can I transfer the collected money to multiple bank accounts?

You can, but remember that every bank transfer will require you to pay an additional transaction fee of 4% (of the transferred amount).

How do I hide my name?

If you don't want anyone to see that amount you've contributed, you can check the corresponding box during the payment process.

What do I do when I want to contribute under a different name?

Once the payment process is completed, you can change your name.

I've received a money pot code. How can I redeem it?

The unique code found in the email your were sent or on the gift voucher can be redeemed here.

How can I use my coupon code?

Nice! You've received a coupon code! You can redeem it on your money pot page once you've set it up. Click 'settings' at the top of the page and fill in your coupon code in the corresponding field.

Is it possible to use the collected money to buy from more than one gift partner?

You can use the collected money to buy gifts or gift cards from multiple gift partners! Have fun gift hunting!

Is there a minimum amount that needs to be spent when buying from gift partners?

Some gift partners require you to spend at least €25. Other gift partners have no such requirements. The terms and conditions for each gift partner can be found on their Kadonation page.

Do gift vouchers from gift partners have an expiration date?

If you transfer the money pot to the recipient, it will not have an expiration date. They can spend the collected amount whenever and wherever they want. If you use the collected money to buy a gift voucher from one of our gift partners, their terms and conditions apply.

Can I spend more than the collected amount when buying from gift partners?

You can. Feel free to go absolutely crazy when buying from our gift partners. The gift code works as a discount code. When buying something from our gift partners, you just need to fill in your gift code during the payment process and the amount attached to your gift voucher will be substracted from the total amount you need to pay.

Is setting up a money pot free of charge?

Setting up a money pot is free of charge.

Do I have to pay a transaction fee when I buy something from a gift partner?

Buying something from one or more of our gift partners is completely free of charge! This means you can spend the total amount of collected money without worry.

What additional costs do I need to pay when transferring money to a bank account?

If you can't find a suitable gift from one of our gift partners, you can choose to transfer the collected money to a bank account. You will have to pay a transaction fee of 4% on the transferred amount. This means that when you want to transfer 10 euro, you will receive 9.60 euro on your bank account. Every transaction requires Kadonation to pay a small transaction fee to the financial institution processing the transactions.

We separate occasions into two categories, namely gifts en donations. These two categories comprise all possible occasions. Can't find the occasion you're looking for? No worries, you can always choose a different one.

What makes a good money pot description?

The description of your money pot should let people know what occasion you're collecting money for and convince them to join the fun! Try to be as creative and original as possible!

Here are some tips:

  • Be clear: think of a comprehensive name! Describe the details of the money pot later on in the description. Explain the occasion, project, or charity in as much detail as possible so everything makes sense;
  • Add links: Add links to your description to give even more information about the money pot.
